Rain forest hikes were only accessible via a skiff. As I mentioned earlier we explored the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. The reserve harbors 539 species of birds, 101 mammal species, 256 kinds of fish, and 22 species of orchids. It is best to just look at the orchids and not touch them. I quickly found out that tarantulas live in orchids. Our skiff explorations also included a jungle hike to see water lilies on the Ucuyali River and a skiff ride on the Maranon River.
