The next day we flew to Iquitos, Peru`s main river port on the Amazon. During the 1800s the city was very wealthy because of the rubber tree industry. However, rubber tree seeds were eventually smuggled out of the country, other countries began rubber production and Iquitos` economy declined. Today, only skeletons of factories and huge homes hint at Iquitos` prosperous history.
