Iquitos remains isolated because access is only by boat or air.
There is a butterfly farm here which is doing an important outreach program through the school system and is teaching children the significant role of butterflies in our eco-system.
Close by is the Amazon Rescue Center which serves as a wildlife rescue site and offers a view of Amazonian manatees who are endangered. This was also a terrific opportunity to see sloths, kinkajous, various monkeys, otters, turtles, snakes and caimans.
