War Protests in Austin
Before I left Texas I began shooting street events and meetings. Those pictures included war protests, a Stokely Carmichel "black power" meeting, and a KKK march in downtown Austin.
Little did I know I was seeing the tame stuff.
I was on campus at Berkeley during 1968 - 1970. Kent State and the Cambodian Invasion turned the Berkeley campus into a war zone. Governor Ronald Reagan called out the National Guard. Helicopters broke up demonstration on campus by dropping pepper stray. Even those not involved in the protest walked around with red watering eyes.
This shot was taken in Austin before I moved West. Photographer: Ron Munden
