During the first part of our trip we stayed in hotels in Lima and Iquitos Peru. The hotel in Lima was very nice. The Iquitos hotel may have been a step down but it was still nice.

The night before we were scheduled to board the riverboat the tour director called a group meeting. He asked how we had enjoyed the hotels that we had stayed in on the first part of the trip.

Everyone said they were very pleased.

At this point the tour directors tone became darker. He explained that we headed to a more primitive part of Peru and we should adjust our expectations because our future accommodation would be on the riverboat.
