Timber Cove has a special place in my heart. It was the first weekend getaway for my wife Deloris and and I some 35 years ago. Every year or so I make my way back to the lodge during my yearly sabbatical to Northern California.

The place is not easy to get to but well worth the effort. I requires a challenging drive alone California Highway 101. On sunny days you can look down at the rocky beaches several hundred feet below you. On foggy days it is best to just keep your eyes of the curvy road as it twists its way North.

Timber Cove is a magical place where stately redwoods pay homage before the vastness of the sea. Guests experience a deep connection with nature, both land and sea, while relaxing in a casual, sophisticated space. One part Hippie chic and two parts rustic modern, Timber Cove is a quintessential Coastal Sonoma retreat.

One wakes up to the soothing sound of ocean waves and enjoy a hearty breakfast in Coast Kitchen, featuring endless ocean views and fresh seasonal organic fare. Meander around the resort and contemplate Benjamino Bufano’s 93-foot Peace Obelisk.

If it is hot or cold, sunny, raining or fog -- one to the highlights of a trip to Timber Cove to spend as much quality downtime as possible in front of the fireplace. It is only a few steps from the well stocked bar so there is no reason to go thirsty.
