Michelson Museum of Art -- Race for the Arts -- Kentucky Derby Party

A Kentucky Derby party at the Michelson Museum of Art will set the stage for the museum`s annual benefit, Race for the Arts. The evening will showcase the Kentucky Derby with multiple television screens and will begin with traditional mint juleps, or a beverage of choice, and hors d`ouvres. Guests may choose favorite ponies prior to the big moment when "They`re off!" will start the traditional race. Imagine the excitement for guests as the horses thunder toward the finish line. Dinner featuring Churchill Downs fare will follow. A silent auction will entertain guests as they enjoy good company while supporting the work of the museum.

Festivities start at 4:30 pm Saturday afternoon, May 5, at the Michelson Museum, 216 North Bolivar Street, in Marshall. A limited number of tickets at $75 each are available at the museum and The Brass Trunk. They will not be sold at the door and must be purchased by noon, Wednesday, May 2 to ensure reservations. One may contact the museum at 903-935-9480.

Access to art can and does make a difference in our lives. A painting can open doors to creativity in ways never thought possible. Interestingly, eighty percent of artists represented at the Michelson Museum are also represented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Of course, the Michelson Museum offers experiences far beyond exhibits. The 2018 MMA calendar is filled with art events for children of all ages, and one can regularly find adults participating in lectures on a variety of art-related topics.

Proceeds will be directed to supporting art experiences free of charge to patrons of all ages, especially children for whom the world of art might never be a part of their lives. The community is invited to join us in support of this effort.
